Installation Instructions for iPod/media player using iTunes

For PC Users:

BEFORE YOU BEGIN: If you do not have iTunes installed on your PC, download and install the free software from itunes.com.

You need to make sure that you have at least 65MB of free space on both your PC and media player.

NOTE: If you do not have an “iTunes Photos” directory, you will need to create one. Open the “My Documents” folder. Right-click inside the folder and choose “New” and then “Folder”. Name the folder “iTunes Photos” (without the quotes).

Right-click on the LNMVocabCards ZIP file you downloaded and extract the files to your “iTunes Photos” directory on your PC. This directory is normally found in your “My Documents” folder. Please note that different computers use different programs to extract ZIP files. If your files are not extracted, please consult the Help documentation that comes with your file-extraction software.

Once the files are extracted to your PC:

Open iTunes.

Set your iPod to sync with iTunes Photos.

Plug your iPod into your computer. When the iPod appears in iTunes, click on it (in the left hand menu, the Devices menu).

Click on the Photos tab.

Click in the ‘Sync Photos’ box so that it is ticked.

(Re)sync your iPod.

NOTE: Download and synchronization times may vary based on your computer’s RAM
and processor speed.

When the vocabulary cards  have finished uploading, iTunes will display a “sync complete” message. You can find your LNM cards in the “Photos” area of your iPod/media player, organized as a photo album that is subdivided into individual chapters. Click on the first card to being reviewing.

For Mac Users:

BEFORE YOU BEGIN: You need to make sure that you have at least 65MB of free space on both your Mac and iPod.

Extract the files from the LNMVocabCards ZIP file you downloaded onto your Mac.

Open iPhoto.

Choose File, Import from the iPhoto menu and browse to the LNMVocabCardsLvl1 (or Lvl 2) folder.

After importing into iPhoto, choose View, Sort from the menu and then sort by title.

Open iTunes.

Set your iPod to sync with iPhoto.

Plug your iPod into your computer. When the iPod appears in iTunes, click on it (in the left hand menu, the Devices menu).

Click on the Photos tab.

Click in the ‘Sync Photos’ box so that it is ticked.

(Re)sync your iPod.

How to Use the Vocabulary Cards on your iPod/media player

Once your vocabulary cards are uploaded to your iPod/media player, you can view them on a chapter-by-chapter basis.

From the menu, use your Click Wheel to select “Photos”.

Select the Latin for the New Millennium chapter you would like to review.

When the cards appear, click the center button to begin your review.

Use your Next/Fast-forward or Previous/Rewind buttons to move between the cards.

When you have finished viewing the cards for a chapter, press the Menu button twice to return to the list of Latin for the New Millennium chapters.

NOTE: For iPod users, customize how you view the cards by using your iPod’s Settings feature to select time-per-slide (card) and repeat (on or off). If you are using a device other than an iPod, consult its user’s manual for instructions on configuring slide-show settings.

Installation Instructions for Mobile Phones

If your mobile phone has the ability to display pictures, you may choose to upload your vocabulary cards to it. As many mobile phones and carriers use different software to connect your computer to your phone for uploading and downloading media, please consult your carrier for detailed instructions on how to upload photos to your phone.
